Rain again

Well it is forecast to rain again for the week - but fine up on the weekend. I thought that I'd still risk the ride to work anyway. I mean, it only takes 25 minutes. Surely, if it's not raining when I leave the house then it won't rain for 25 minutes, right? Well yesterday, I rode to the gym in only a few sprinkles. Once in the gym though, the rain started to bucket down. Heavy. I did my weights then chose a treadmill on the window where I could watch the rain. My thoughts were turned to how I would manage showering, getting changed and still ride the rest of the way to work without getting wet. Suddenly my clever plan of riding when it was forecast rain didn't seem so clever. It ended up being quite a complicated process. I decided to not shower, and stay sweaty so that it didn't matter if I got wet as I rode the rest of the way to work. There are also showers at work, so I knew I could still be fresh as a daisy - it's just that the showers at work are not the nicest and I rather shower at the gym. My bike was parked in the rain (of course) so I left my backpack near the gym door, toddled off in the rain to get the bike, wheeled it back under cover while I packed the paniers, and then rode unpleasantly all of 500m to work. Only 500m, but it doesn't take long to get soaked to the skin!

Meanwhile, I was so distracted by the rain that I found it quite easy to run 1km at 9km/h on the tready! That's a 6.40min km!!! I don't think I could run that fast "for real" though, somehow the treadmill makes it easier. And it was only 1km.

Oh shoot and not just does is sound wet but really cold too. Since yesterday I'm freezing and had the heaters on. Little man wasn't too well and ran a high fever... had us up all night, it's so scary.
He is better today but I decided not to go to the gym and creche with him, so I guess it's no exercises for me for today ... unless I pick some free weights up at home ..but again I'm to lazy!

Hubby flies out to Karratha this week for a day, lucky bugger!

Arggh, that rain doesn't sound good. Excellent work on the run, it's amazing what we can do and always lovely to impress ourselves with fast running. I used to find the treadie easier but find it much harder going than running outside now.

A 9.0km/hr 6.40m km is a 9.0km/hr 6.40min km wherever you do it! Go you!

You have showers at work - is that a typical "Aussie-thing"? In neither place I worked was a shower, never.

Hmmm, Karratha :-) In Dampier they have (had) hot showers for free. Guess you guys have no lack of showers over there.

Hope the weather is getting better soon over there!

Why are the work showers always so grimy? Great running!

I am looking forward to checking out the work showers. I still don't have building access without being escorted all over the place!

Well done on risking the rain. And on the great 1km run.

Well done on the tready... pretty soon I'm sure we'll be reading you maintaining that for longer distances the way things are falling into place.

I always find it harder to run on the treadmill.. don't know why. Hope the rain stops soon. Weather is really spring like in Sydney at the moment so I'll send it over the other side :)

Hi Celeste -was trying to work out how to email you but it's not obvious :)
Thanks for caring enough to write that comment (HUGS). I've never been even close to drink driving but I am a catastrophiser and I think to myself, well, if I continue down this path, who knows what might happen one day.... I've really appreciated all the feedback and support I'm getting, you are such good people

Great pace for the running Celeste. You are a champ for riding in the rain. Guess you got to have two showers that way.

It wasn't only 1Km, it WAS 1Km

well done

Every Km counts

You poor thing with that rain though, riding in a down pour is rough.
