First ride on new bike

I took the bike for a spin today. It was good to get out there and do something again. I had forgotten what it was like to get the heart pounding! I rode my commute-route to work so I could time it for tomorrow. I knew it wouldn't take long but the hills are a bit steeper than I thought so it took longer than I expected. About 25 minutes. But only 20 to get home! I've run along this route before but I never noticed the hills were quite as steep. You feel every lump and bump on a bike don't you?

Here is my little beauty! Pookie also managed to poke her head into the photo. She was very curious as to what on earth I was doing down in the vegie patch. Notice the enormous seat and fat-girl tyres. But otherwise looks pretty schmick, eh?

All up today only about 11km in almost 45 minutes. (Ha! STILL slower than some runners. I've thought of a new demoralisation - being overtaken by a runner while on a bicycle. May it never happen.)

I'm not sure what shmick means, but if it means sexy and stylish, then yes it certainly is! I hope you're loving your new vehicle as much as I'm loving mine. BTW, what is the round black thing in the back corner of the frame (sort of underneath the front of the seat) ?

I am pretty sure that is the cable for tying up the pride and joy so no-one steals it??
Love the new wheels Celeste- and I don't think you need to worry about being overtaken by any joggers (unless you are riding around the Tan while Em is training!)
I have the same fat girl tyres and I am envious of the seat.

LOL I never thought of them as fat girl tyres. I just bought what the guy sold me. If he'd called them fat girl tyres I'm sure he'd have lost the sale.

Don't forget the padded bike pants. They are the best thing in the world. If you can't find any, you should be able to find a gel seat cover, which has the advantage that you don't feel like you're wearing a nappy!

Celeste, if you're overtaken by a runner, think of it as their problem not yours. They are clearly going too fast to appreciate the scenery.

I freuently get overtaken by runners. When the hill is really steep it does become quicker to get off and walk but I like to persevere and get up there on two wheels.

You'll be zooming up those hills in no time ... your butt & thighs are going be looking pretty schmick too soon!! ;)

I've just caught up with all your woes. You certainly have the right attitude regarding health and fitness. There's nothing wrong with taking a step back and re-assessing.

Made me laugh about the physio holding off with the 'proper' advice. What advice does he give when he knows clients aren't going to google it.

Never heard the term 'fat girl tyres' before. I wouldn't worry about runner's overtaking you, that may happen when your tracking up steep hills, as Warriorwomen suggested. Harder riding a bike up hill than running it.

Is that your riding partner in the front of the photo?

Yeaahh haaaa! LOL it looks so much like mine, mine is just red! I have the cateye also on the right and my light in the middle, watch those lights they go through batteries like mad!! What fat-girl tyres, they look pretty thin to me!
And ... I've been overtaken by runners too once, it was uphill though, fun part is to look at your cateye then and smile at them and say "you wanna know how fast you are running?" ha ha hilarious! When they hear it then they feel so slow! LOL
Here is to many fun hours on the bike!! Cheers Celeste!

Enjoy the bike - it is a great way to maintain fitness until you can run again ... and then include it in your weekly program.

Have fun ..... :-)

Hi Celeste. Just caught up on the no running saga. The bike is a great way to maintain fitness and lose some of the weight. These things are sent to challenge us. You will be out there running soon enough and enjoying it more becuase you worked hard for it.

Ooh lala! Now I have bike envy ;-)

Well, actually my mountain bike has envy and stands in the hallway gathering dust and glaring at my ever-expanding running shoe collection LOL I really must get out on it but the drivers in Sydney are fecking crazy and I'm too scared to cycle on the roads here! Oh for the Melbbourne bike paths and trails...

Noice bike!

I have noticed when I ride one of my regular running routes that I notice the hills more on the bike, funny that.

LOL, I admit that I have overtaken the odd cyclist, but only when running uphill and only because they weren't making an effort, trust me, as soon as a runner comes up along side they do speed up :-)

And from one cat owner to another Pookie looks gorgeous, I love "blue" cats.
