Day 2 Week 5 C25K

Two 8 minute runs this morning. That's day 2 of week 5 of the C25K. I managed 4.5km in about 37 minutes all up. I decided to angle up through Kings Park on the way home but did not realise the hill was so steep. I huffed and puffed up the hill but then enjoyed a long steady downhill for my effort! I might do day 2 again before I attempt the 20 minute run for day 3. I kind of feel like I cheated today because of the very long downhill - like it wasn't me running. It might be a good route to take for the 20 minute run, so I can feel like I end strongly! But another two 8 minute runs first I think, on level ground. I'm in no hurry - I'll get there. And this time, I'll get there with no injuries!!

Well done to all those who ran in the Melbourne Marathon, half marathon and 10km yesterday. I'm jealous of the 10km-ers, in awe of the half marathoners and staggered by the effort of the marathoners. Nothing like a gritty marathon race report to talk you out of wanting to do a marathon!!

Thanks so much for your lovely comment on my blog today, and I am so happy that you are out running again - definitely the right thing to do is to take it slow and steady!

Thanks for the comments on my blog Celeste appreciate it!

I like your google maps, reckon you should update your km per month table some time.

My wife ran her second 5k race in 2005 at Rottnest, maybe you could have a run in the Rottnest 5k race in a few weeks. Google for the WA marathon club website for details. Sounds like you would go well, and its a nice place for a family to visit for the day. you can hire bikes to ride round the island. One of my friends wife she is running her first marathon at Rottnest, so I may go and have a run in the 10k if my injuries settle down, and I can find time.

I know what you mean about running downhill. I try to run all the uphills, and I figure I've earned the downhills. It sounds as though you had certainly earned yours.

I'm pleased you're taking your return to running slowly. It means we'll get to hear many more of your running stories.

Celeste,
be careful in Kings Park and maybe try to get someone to run/ride with as the following info was forwarded to me by marathon club pres;

Morning All,

Sorry to be the bearer of the following news early on Monday but a woman was assaulted on the Western Path between Synergy Parkland and Winthrop Avenue in Kings Park this morning. (monday) I met the distressed woman and another very nervous female passer-by at about 7:15 shortly after the incident and escorted them out of the park. A man had come up behind the woman, thrown a blanket over her head and tried to drag her into the bushes. She kicked and screamed and managed to fight him off. He then disappeared into the trees. Unfortunately the woman did not get a description. The matter is now with the police.

I know many of you use the park so please take appropriate precautions and be careful. You probably know others that do too so please pass on a warning that there is a dangerous low-life out there.

I find downhills harder than uphill, mostly cos i'm scared of falling over when i run downhill :)
